Our Thoughts - Although this course has been around for a while, we found it to be pretty basic stuff. That being said, in the beginning stages of playing guitar, that's what you want, a way to learn the basics - and this course will do a good job of it. Be cautioned though that this course is presented in an eBook format and is accompanied by some sound files. The lack of video is a big detractor for many. Surveys of users ranged from 2 to 4 - out of 5.

The Instructor - The instructor for Unlock the Guitar is Jared Creb, a self professed professional guitarist with over 12 years of experience. Due to the lack of video it was hard to get a real feel for his ability as an instructor but the written lessons and sound bites seemed to provide an adequate foundation for learning guitar.

High Notes - The course claims to teach a new guitar student how to play a song in the first 48 hours of playing guitar. And that is entirely possible - with this course as well as with others. We liked the fact that Unlock the Guitar attempts to simplify the guitar learning process by eliminating some of the flash and glitter you find in other courses - and just concentrates on learning the basics needed to get playing guitar quickly.

Low Notes - The lack of video in this course is one of the main negative points. The written material and pictures are good, but there is no substitute for being able to actually watch someone put their hands on the guitar and show you how to play it. As a result, the $49.95 price tag may be on the high side as compared to other courses in the same price range that provide far more, like Jamorama and Adult Guitar Lessons.

Summary - Unlock the Guitar is a basic guitar course that is good at teaching....the basics. It's not unreasonable to think that you could be playing your first song within 48 hours of starting guitar, and you probably will with this course. The important thing, in the beginning, is that you get the basics under your belt, not necessarily where you get the basics. If you don't mind the lack of video, this course will give them to you.
