musicnote03 Our Thoughts - The Piano System is a home study piano learning course that focuses on teaching the beginning to advanced student the skills to play piano by ear. It is a well presented course with professionally produced DVDs, CDs and workbooks. The lessons program covers a variety of genres including blues, gospel, contemporary, country, funk, jazz and swing. We were impressed with this course and would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn piano without having to get bogged down in music theory and concepts. User surveys have consistently returned ratings of 4 or 5 - out of 5.

musicnote03 The Instructor - Nate Bosch is an accomplished pianist and skilled teacher, having instructed piano students, from beginner to advanced, through private lessons and clinics for many years. He has good communication skills and is able to present the material in a clear cut, easy to follow manner.

musicnote03 High Notes - Piano lessons have traditionally taken the student down a more conservative path as opposed to guitar or drum lessons. Quite often, piano lessons require the student to become immersed in music theory and concepts, but that is not the case with this course. We liked the fact that The Piano System teaches the student to become reliant on what they "hear" and to play by ear. It was a refreshing approach for us and they have developed a learning system that accomplishes that goal.

musicnote03 Low Notes - We were not able to poke too many holes in this course. In terms of volume of material, the course offers a little less than Learn & Master Piano, but the reasonable $97 price tag reflects that. They even offer a monthly payment plan for a tight budget, as well as a 90 day money back guarantee. Another possible negative is the fact that this course is only available as a physical product shipped by mail - and there are some students that prefer an online or download format where they don't have to keep up with books and DVDs.

musicnote03 Summary - The Piano System was a "diamond in the rough" for us. It is not as popular as Learn & Master Piano, but in our opinion that's only because there is not as much brand name recognition. Teaching students to play by ear was a really nice and fresh approach for us and for anyone serious about learning to play piano without having to study music theory, this is a great course.

musicnote03 Final Thoughts - Highly Recommended!
